Sharing the Wonder of Puhi Peaks Station
Wilderness. Wildlife. Wonder.
Welcome to Puhi Peaks Station – 8,000 acres of New Zealand’s highest privately owned property, nestled deep in the awe-inspiring Puhi Puhi Valley, Kaikōura. A vast wilderness where conservation, adventure and tradition intersect.
Set within a QE2 covenanted conservation area and rising to 2,600m above sea level, this sub-alpine haven is home to endangered species, rare native flora and fauna, and extraordinary geology.
From scenic walking experiences and immersive educational tours to dark sky stays, off-grid accommodation, hunting adventures, and peaceful planning retreats – Puhi Peaks offers a truly unique chance to reconnect with nature in one of the country’s most breathtaking landscapes.
Whether you’re here to explore, unwind, or learn, every visit supports our commitment to biodiversity, regeneration, and the long-term protection of this remarkable place.
Come walk beneath Te Ao Whekere – into the World of the Gods.
One Iconic Landscape. Three Unique Perspectives.
To ensure every guest finds their perfect connection to this land, we operate under three specialised brands—each a different chapter of the same story.
Puhi Peaks | The Heart
The foundation of everything we do. This is our dedicated conservation mission: a whole-of-ecosystem approach to protecting all native flora and fauna. While we are a critical sanctuary for the endangered Hutton’s Shearwater (Kaikōura tītī), our work extends to every corner of our 2,000-acre QEII Covenant and beyond. From the restoration of rare alpine plants to providing a vital sanctuary for all native birdlife, our focus is on active, landscape-wide guardianship that ensures this unique environment thrives for generations to come.
Kaikōura Wilderness Experiences | The Journey
KWE is your invitation to step into the mountains. We offer immersive ways to “switch off” through guided walks, educational tours, and rustic, off-grid accommodation. It is a sanctuary for those who wish to reconnect with nature on a grand scale.
Puhi Peaks Hunting | The Harvest
A professional, down-to-earth hunting operation focused on the sustainable management of the station’s species. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned hunter, we offer expert-led experiences tailored to your ability. For many of our guests, the true reward isn’t just the harvest—it’s the chance to be immersed in the overwhelming scale and raw beauty of this landscape.
